Welcome everyone to our first blogpost! We are sooo excited our Summer of Code has finally started! Today we had our first day at the SoundCloud office. We are still totally overwhelmed by EVERYTHING. Our workspace is amazing, we got our own Macs for the time being and we met a whole lot of cool and interesting people. Everyone has been really welcoming and friendly. Also we met the second Rails Girls Team hosted by SoundCloud: Michelle and Caroline!
This is what we achieved on our first day:
After all that, we went to the Kick-Off BBQ, hosted by DaWanda. There we met Linda Liukas, the founder of Rails Girls, and lots of people from the Berlin Ruby scene and beyond. Everyone was very encouraging and we had a great time!
P.S. Of course we also tried out SoundCloud's inhouse photo booth - as you can see! We actually look better in reality...
This is what we achieved on our first day:
- Set up Mac as a dev workstation (as we both have never worked with a Mac before, Erik had to give us a short introduction)
- installed homebrew, rbenv and ruby-build to install the newest Ruby version and the version RapidFTR uses
- installed git and sublime
- walked the puppy (super cute white fluffy fur ball)
- forked the RapidFTR code
- cloned code to laptop
- installed RapidFTR dependencies
- played table tennis with Erik and Francis (we really need to work on our skills!!)
